Important Importables
Jenni Lada brings us information about all of the groovy new gaming imports from around the world.

Ankama’s DOFUS sequel, Wakfu is almost complete. Like DOFUS, Wakfu is also a massive multiplayer online rpg (MMORPG) with tactical, turn-based battles. The closed beta phase of Wakfu has just begun, with special beta keys to participate being given away in contests. People can also sign up to be informed when the open beta period begins. The full version of the game is scheduled to be released before the end of 2008.
Wakfu is set 1,000 years after all of the events in DOFUS, and an ogre has collected all six Dofus eggs and unintentionally flooded Amakna with his tears. Players will be responsible for maintaining the world of Amakna and protecting it, a daunting task since Wakfu will have no NPCs.
There is also going to be a Wakfu animated series accompanying the game. The cartoon will star a young boy named Yugo, his pet tofu Az and his friends Amalia, Ruel, Sadlygrove and Evangelyne as they have adventures in Amakna. So far only two trailers, one showing Yugo’s powers and a general Wakfu trailer, are available. Both are really short (under two minutes) and cute, so they’re worth watching.
As intriguing as Wakfu sounds, my experiences with DOFUS would likely keep me from playing. I can not emphasize enough how much I hated DOFUS. Not because it was a bad game. On the contrary, I quite enjoyed the battle mechanics and was having quite a bit of fun. However, I encountered quite a few mental midgets while playing and was disappointed that the “free” version limited the areas you could visit in the game. The Wakfu animated series does look cute, so I might bookmark the site and come back once the episodes are available online.
