Square Enix is creating a Valkyrie Profile title for the Nintendo DS. Not a port, like Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for the PSP, but a brand new game entitled Valkyrie Profile: The Accursed One. This news was enough to make me jump out of my chair and do a little victory dance when I heard it. There isn’t a set date for release yet, but Japanese magazines, Famitsu among them, are reporting on the story and providing screen shots.

It appears from the screen shots that Valkyrie Profile: The Accursed One will function a lot like the first Valkyrie Profile game. The sprites look amazingly similar to ones created for the original. Also the Famitsu article offers a hint at the story, suggesting that the hero (or perhaps antihero) Wilfred, a valkyrie hating soldier.

Honestly, the news of a new Valkyrie Profile is enough to make me happy, but to hear that it is going to be on my favorite handheld console totally makes my week. Now if there’s an announcement saying that Lezard or Mystina are back, I’ll start getting my preorder money ready.
