If you want to guarantee winning a lifetime achievement award from the Golden Raspberries, directing a large number of video game to film translations is an excellent way to start.
Uwe Boll, the man in the director’s chair for cinematic disasters including Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead, is receiving the Worst Career Achievement Award from The Razzies. The awards, which will be handed out February 21, 2009, honor, er, recognize the worst in film and nobody’s more identifiable with bad movies than Boll. He had another exceptional year as his In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is also up for five awards including Worst Picture.
It won’t be easy as the Dungeon Siege flick is up against the Mike Myers bomb The Love Guru, Meet the Spartans, The Happening, Disaster Movie and yes, Paris Hilton vehicle The Hottie and the Nottie. But Boll’s Worst Career Award is already locked up. Previous winners include Bruce, the rubber shark from the Jaws series, and Linda Blair, known for The Exorcist and not much else.
Despite the mountain of evidence that Boll is one of the worst directors working today, the German born filmmaker is indignant and reacts aggressively to any perceived criticism. In a now infamous publicity stunt, Boll, a former amateur boxer, pummeled some of his critics in a boxing match. When his adaptation of Postal opened in a only handful of theaters, he accused the industry of censorship. It’s refreshing to see that Boll will finally get all the credit he deserves.
