US Senator wants to stop Microsoft’s economic bleeding

Microsoft’s decision to trim the fat from its workforce has caught the attention of key government officials;. In fact, one is openly questioning their methods and rationale for doing so.
This individual is Charles Grassey, a Republican senator from Iowa. His reasons for inquiry stem from a concern that, according to Kotaku, foreign guest workers will be retained in the company rather than qualified American workers once the company implements its layoff plan.
Essentially, Grassey wants to make sure that not too many Americans are released from Microsoft once its layoff provisions become clear. This can be interpreted as him looking out for the interests of the good ol’ US of A.
Currently, Microsoft uses the H1-B Visa program that allows for American corporations and universities to hire foreign workers under a temporary visa program. The senator made it clear to Microsoft in his letter that the company has a special responsibility to look out for American workers during these challenging times.
This is certainly a noble gesture from the senator, and it is great that he is willing to look out for American interests. However, Microsoft, at the end of the day, is a business, and if they deem foreign workers to be more talented than their U.S. counterparts, then they should hire them and train them at all costs.
News of individuals losing their jobs is disappointing and it is hoped that those individuals can quickly get back on their feet should they find the rug pulled out from under them.

Where does everyone get off telling people and companies what to do. Microsoft can do whatever they want so long as it is not genuinly immoral AND harming someone. Something most people don’t know: The current economic crisis can be attributed to THE DEBT BUBBLE (negative savings) and INFLATION (counterfeiting money) - It should seem strange then, that tech companies such as MS often catch flak for “hoarding cash”. SAVINGS create strong economies. If anything, we should be thanking Microsoft for not helping us dig the hole we now find ourselves in. The irony of the whole thing is that an organization that overspends, creates their own monopoly, imprisons clients who won’t buy their product, counterfeits money, and missmanages every resource they claim to own, is telling a well oiled machine like Microsoft, what to do. God help us all!
