The American leg of US World Cyber Games 2008 will take place at the Samsung Experience in New York, NY, on May 31, 2008, and June 1, 2008. At stake are cash and prizes worth more than $20,000 along with a place in the WCG USA National Final. The first leg or the WCG 2008 US Open will include some of the best gamers in America who have their sights set on qualifying for the WCG 2008 Grand Finals in Cologne, Germany, in November 2008.
The Grand Finals will have the real booty for these gamers, perhaps as a compensation for the fact that there will be no confetti-drenched homecomings for them even after they do their country proud. Leaving the fight for greater respect for pro gamers aside and coming back to the WCG US Open 2008, gamers will be competing in several PC and Xbox 360 games including Half Life: Counter Strike 1.6, StarCraft: Brood War, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, FIFA Soccer 2008, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Virtua Fighter 5 etc.
But if you believe in your ability as a gamer, don’t watch from the sidelines. Join the action. The US Open will allow gamers to try their luck in one of the walk-up tournaments. The winners will qualify for the national final and come closer to representing Team USA at the WCG 2008 Grand Finals.
Those less adventurous can watch the action as mere spectators. The first day of the US Open will also include Guinness World Records officially acknowledging the WCG as the videogame league with most registered participants (1.5 million) in a single year.
