Nintendo’s WiiWare channel launched this morning (May 12, 2008) and soon a slew of new, small and original downloadable titles will be available. One of the games that we’ll be seeing on the service later in the month is Protothea from Ubisoft.
Protothea is a vertical shoot-em-up (because we all know that the Wii is in desperate need of shooters), featuring 3D graphics and a control scheme that takes advantage of the Wii’s unique capabilities. Players control their ship with the analog stick, while the Wii remote will serve as a pointer used for aiming and firing. The controls appear to be reminiscent of the Wii version of Geometry Wars Galaxies.
The game is actually a remake of a 2005 PC shooter of the same name. This new version will feature a total of 10 missions (as opposed to the original 7), new power-ups and weapons, a plethora of new enemies to blow-up, a graphical overhaul and new controls. The Wii version makes use of Garage Games’ Torque engine, making it the first title on the console to do so.
Protothea will cost 1000 (or $10) when it is released late May 2008.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2’s many imperfections, like laws you might unintentionally break, a flawed recruiting system, recycled characters and new MP system have made me realize I want nothing to do with the game.
