For those of you who read our other Dabbledoo site, Gadgetell, you might recall my long-ago post about Target’s videogame gift cards. It seems the coolness factor of gaming hasn’t been lost on Target, which continues to release game-related cards all year ‘round.
Right now in Target stores you can find two gamer gift cards. The first, pictured above, is a flat, rubbery card shaped like a game controller. It’s a bit thicker than the credit card style gift cards and has a bit of texture to it so the buttons kinda feel like buttons. Here’s the back, for those who like completeness.
The other is more of a standard gift card, being a flat plastic credit card style card. The nifty part about this one is that the words “GAME ON” (even if outdated and kinda corny, even for gamers) glow in the dark.
If you look closely at them both you’ll see copyright 2006 on the back of the rubbery one and copyright 2007 on the “Game On” card, indicating Target’s bringing back these cards during the non-holiday season.
As usual, these cards are actually free though they like you to put some money on them. I don’t see these being offered through the Target Giftcard section of its website, so you’ll have to find these in your local store.
If you see any other game related cards from Target or any other store, please let us know. We dig that kind of schtuff.
Just for fun, and since they seem to have been dropped from that old post, here are the videos of the two Christmas 2006 gift cards that actually did stuff:
