Twin Skies changing the MMO playbook

At PAX 08 I had a chance to visit Twin Skies’ booth.  What I found out about Twin Skies is the truth in their slogan of being “much more than an MMO”.  It appears that Meteor Games is trying to do more than just create the next Everquest or World of Warcraft by revolutionizing the gaming industry with a service that is part MMO, part social networking site plus a site for cool Flash games.

As an MMO, Twin Skies is powered by BigWorld Technology, which gives it some terrific animations, lighting effects, shadows. The demo I saw looks quite good.  It also has some PVE and PVP combat, as well as exploratory and fun activities including creature taming, dancing, painting and making a sandwich.  There is also a constant customization feature the player to choose classes, weapons, skills and homes with new content to be added every week.

Twin Skies is also a place for social networking as players can meet new friends and chat online, and the user can customize his or her homepage. Think of it as a MySpace for Twin Skies users.

Another unique feature of Twin Skies is that the player can play a ton of Flash Games, and beating these games will unlock bonus rewards that can be “cashed in” on the MMO game. For example, you can summon monsters, or even rain fire from the sky.

As you can see, Twin Skies is designed to be a true MMO community and it is designed so that the entire family can play.  If you’re looking for the most unique fantasy gaming hit, you might want to try out the Free Sign Up on the Twin Skies homepage.

Unfortunately, all aspects of the game aren’t out yet, such as the 3D MMO part.  There is no word concerning when all the features will be functioning on Twin Skies, so we have no idea how much memory is required or if it will be available for Mac.
