If TimeGate Studios has its way, Section 8, being developed for the PC and next-generation consoles, will be on every gamer’s wish list come 2009.
The Texas-based company behind 2001’s critically acclaimed RTS Kohan and expansions for F.E.A.R might not be a household name yet, but with Section 8 that might be changing. In the game, players will take on the role of an elite earth-base military unit that will be sent out to the far reaches of the galaxy to battle all sorts of evil.
Drawing on their RTS and FPS roots, TimeGate, Section 8 producer stated in a behind-the-scenes video released by the developer that Section 8 will be a hybrid of the two popular genres. The battlefield will be diverse and complex, offering gamers a wide array of option and possibilities to consider before they jump into the fray. TimeGate Studios have promised that no two engagements will be the same, as it will be the player that will control the flow and outcome of the battle. But outside of the brief video preview, both TimeGate and Gamecock, who will be publishing Section 8, are keeping quiet for now.
To take another step further, TimeGate promises that the multiplayer mode will be unlike anything players have experience before. No details though have been released as to what this means, but if the video is any hint, Section 8 just might be one heck of a game.
