Three guns in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 you might have skipped

Rainbow Six gun

Everyone knows the M468, an upgrade to a standard-issue US military rifle. You may have clutched to it throughout the campaign once you unlocked it in Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I certainly did the first go. And though you’ll be fine in the online battlefield with whatever weapon you’ve grown to love, here’s a few ideas to get you started looking for other ways to satisfy your trigger finger while taking out virtual terrorists.

MP5N

Plenty of people get a bad taste from sub-machine guns. The short, controlled bursts create a very refined sphere of what “mid-range” really is. Go ahead and under- or over-shoot that, and you end up looking like your militia just highjacked the armory 20 minutes ago. But take a look at this from Guns Magazine: “Most military special operations units or anti-terrorist teams have adopted the HK MP5 due to the ease of use in close confined quarters against multiple targets.” Sound familiar? Yeah, you’ll probably be doing a lot of that in Rainbow Six Vegas. The MP5N, the Variant used in the game outfitted with sound suppressor and scope options, has virtually no recoil compared to its assault rifle counterparts and just flat out feels good. Use some smoke grenades to get in close enough, and aim for the head.

TAR21
Tar
You get the TAR21 pretty early in the game, so you know it’s a pretty trusty assault rifle from the get-go. But once you start to climb up the ladder in experience, you probably won’t think much about looking back. Forget that. Remember, this game is all about balance. Sure, some weapons are just plain better than others, but some are just better for the way you play. The TAR21 has the same accuracy as the M468. But where the M468 is a point higher in range and a point lower in damage, the TAR21 has a more consistent rating across the board. Trust me, I’ve had my head blown off by plenty of people who had six or seven rankings above me in the first week of release with this bad boy.

XM-26 LSS
XM
Y’all can mess with that Italian SPAS 12 all you want, but you know a real covert op’s shotgun doesn’t have a pump. Even though the XM-26 LSS (another M16/M4 mod) is a tick or two down from the SPAS 12, you’ll find reloading doesn’t leave you loudly clunking your slugs while you wait to be picked off. Yeah, you’re gonna miss the straight up blow-a-hole-through-the-wall fervor of the other shotguns (especially when you start unlocking the real bad boys) but it’s worth a look for the stealth advantage.

These aren’t the strongest or the baddest guns. This is just meant to get you thinking about the broad selection at your disposal and finding a combination that feels right.
