For the past four years I have been writing a game column for CiN Weekly magazine (part of Gannett‘s Cincinnati Enquirer). The column was canceled a few weeks ago so I thought I’d end on a positive note and feature a list of my favorite and more personal videogame endings.

To qualify, the game actually had to have a legit ending, which pretty much left out anything that involved a kill screen or could be played forever (a la Asteroids on the Atari 2600). Also, as you’ll see, gaming was really not a one-person activity, so I kept the list to games I finished with either an active participant or a friendly/familial spectator.

My list spans close to 30 years and I’m sure you can come up with your own, so feel free to contribute below.

Games on my list include:

• Superman (Atari 2600, 1979)
• Zork I (Atari 800XL, 1980)
• Castlevania (NES, 1987)
• Tetris (NES, 1989)
• Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES, 1990)
• Final Fantasy X (PS2, 2001)
• We Heart Katamari (PS2, 2005)
• Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol (DS, 2008)

And yes, I still have my original - and operational - Atari 2600, Atari 800XL and NES, along with the original games with the boxes and manuals.

As for why the column was canceled, well, you’ll need to take that up with management.
