The Rondo of Swords guide to grinding
Rondo of Swords is not for the faint of heart. If you’re going to play, you better be incredibly savvy and patient, because the game is not forgiving. Enemies are intelligent and strong, and early on you’ll find your characters falling in battle. Its a humbling experience, especially if you’ve done well in titles like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem.
Take heart! There is a way to overcome the challenge that is this treacherous strategic tango. While there aren’t many errand opportunities early on to level up characters, and there are very few optional, secret battles in the game, there is a way to get an edge. If you’re willing to devote a good chunk of time to replaying maps repeatedly, then it is possible to grind your way to glory.
Its all incredibly simple: just click quit. During battle there is a menu option in the lower left corner. Simply proceed through a map like normal, but take care not to fulfill the battle objectives. After a few characters have leveled up, tap the menu box, and then select quit. Trust me, I know what I’m doing. If you don’t believe me, then after quitting, choose the formation option and take a closer look at the characters. They’ll still have the experience that they gained during the failed battle attempt.
Another helpful hint is to go at opponents from the side or back if you can, and avoid hitting them head on. I noticed early on that Sasha has a tendency to be blocked or counterattacked when you send her out. If you attack opponents from the side or behind, they’re less likely to counterattack your character or defend.
Whenever you run across a mission which seems too bleak, then just focus on leveling up characters on enemies closest to you. Quit when necessary, and then come back again to try and do better. Its a refreshing change to see a title reward players for being intelligent and realizing that sometimes you have to take a step back before you can proceed forward.

...wait. This game rewards you if you quit it? Does this mean that the only way to get the truly good ending is to return it to GameStop before you finish?
