Besides gawking at the original BatCopter while at the Ohio State Fair (July 29 through August 9, 2008), I also ran through the Dell/Intel “Extreme Gaming Tour” booth. According to the schedule on the official Extreme Gaming Tour site, the booth has since traveled across country and will be at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, WA, this weekend (August 29-31, 2008).
The “booth” is actually a fancy RV with a tent extended from the side with a bunch of Intel-powered Dells set up (check out the far shot in the Photo Gallery). There were about a dozen gaming rigs under the tent to take your info and let you play a few games. There were three more rigs in the air conditioned RV, also running games.
The games I saw on display were World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Assassin’s Creed, Lost Planet and Crysis. Other games being shown but I didn’t witness in action include Freaky Creatures, World in Conflict and Space Siege. There was also a racing game but I didn’t catch the name, just the big setup (maybe you can identify it in the Photo Gallery).
There really weren’t many people hanging out in the booth, probably because a state fair is the place you go to check out fatty-fatty fair foods, stinky livestock and rides, not stand and try to play an involved game while the rest of your family yells at you to catch up.
The half dozen seemingly dozing employees were handing out Warcraft stickers to anyone who would extend a hand or show the slightest interest in the booth. Again, it wasn’t very crowded so if you want to visit the booth, check the schedule for a local fair since it will likely be a mod scene at a game expo. After PAX 2008, the booth will be at the Puyallup Fair in Puyallup, WA, then at E for All 2008 and Blizzcon 2008.
