The moppy pop icons’ company, Apple Corps Ltd., finally OKed the rights to the band’s name and songs being included in a game, The Beatles: Rock Band.

According to the press release sent today (April 16, 2009), those who preorder will be able to join the “The Beatles: Rock Band Pre-Order Club” and receive news and exclusive game content including art, behind-the-scenes footage and “more.” The content updates will begin May 2009. As with all Rock Band games, gamers will be able to play all four parts: guitar, bass, mic and drums.

For those who like to invest in games, Harmonix and MTV are offering the The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle for US$249.99. It will include:

• The Beatles: Rock Band game
• Höfner Bass controller: Large scale replica of the Bass used by Sir Paul McCartney
• Beatles-inspired and Ludwig-branded Rock Band 2 drums with pearl finish and vintage replica Beatles kick drum head
• Microphone
• Microphone Stand
• Additional special content

The game will be released September 9, 2009, (aka 09/09/09) in the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and “all other territories” for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. In case you cannot afford the bundle, the game itself will be available The for US$59.99 and standalone guitars will cost US$99.99 each.

A list of the game’s songs or avatars has not yet been released. The Beatles join Aerosmith and Metallica as the name-sakes of modern music games.
