When Valve released the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Gold Rush update (which included unlockable weapons and achievements for the Medic class in addition to the Payload gameplay style) in April 2008, the company also confirmed that the game’s remaining eight classes will be overhauled in the future.
Since then, the Pyro and Heavy classes have been updated with new weapons and achievements but the remaining six classes (Scout, Engineer, Demoman, Sniper, Soldier and Spy) remain untouched. Valve’s vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi recently spoke with ShackNews about when fans can expect future updates to be released.
While Lombardi suggests that the company’s current focus is on its upcoming first-person shooter Left 4 Dead — a fact that ensures new updates will not be released this year (2008) — he confirms that Valve will “keep evolving TF2” and expects that new details will be released following Left 4 Dead’s launch on November 18, 2008.
Lombardi also goes on to reassure owners of the Xbox 360 version of Team Fortress 2 that bringing updates already available to PC owners to them is “definitely in the plan” but notes that the specifics of when and how these updates will be released have yet to be worked out.
