Super Monkey Ball now available for iPhone, iPod Touch
Sega has announced (July 10, 2008) the release of Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Developed by Other Ocean Interactive, the game will cost $9.99 and can be purchased straight from Apple’s new App Store. The App Store can be accessed by PC, Mac or via the iPhone.
The iPhone’s built-in WiFi technology allows you to connect to the App Store in 62 countries where wireless internet is available. Technically you can download the game even if your computer is thousands of miles away.
Super Monkey Ball takes full advantage of the iPhone’s capabilities. The iPhone uses a tilt function to help you guide your choice of four little monkey’s around the stage. This isn’t the kind of game that will be over in matter of minutes. Super Monkey Ball packs in a whopping 110 stages to overcome. These stages span across five unique worlds with optional gameplay modes.
Let’s say you only have time to get in one quick match. You can use the Instant Play mode to jump in, navigate the level, and jump back out. Super Monkey Ball also features a Practice Mode to help you get used to the using the tilt, and the Main Game lets you go through the game from start to finish.
Super Monkey Ball will test the waters on whether games on cell phones can stand up to its established console counterparts. If it’s successful a lot of developers could start churning out exclusive titles for Apple’s brand. Let’s wait and see what happens.
