Wii is holding tightly to its lead at the top of the console market but the other two consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3, are trying their best to catch up. Both Microsoft and Sony have slashed prices of its consoles and have some impressive games lined up for them.
An online study by Brandintel - compiled using inputs from around 400,000 blogs, forums and social networking comments - found that more gamers are interested in buying the Wii as compared to the other two next-gen consoles, and the console is consolidating its hold on the casual gaming segment.
The study, christened Top Video Game Console Report: Consumer Insight Monitor, has pegged the purchase intent for the Wii at 3.7, while the 360 and PS3 have been rated 3.4 and 3.0 respectively on this index.
According to the report, the interest in the 360 is dwindling, but the ardent game fans still love it due to the large game library.
But the study shares the common perception that, although most people were in awe of the PS3’s processing capabilities before its launch, its steep price has deterred the majority of them from buying it. Also, the shortage of quality games has adversely affected its sales.
Another study, another conclusion, but the race is still wide open. A lot of great games are going to release for the 360 and the PS3 in coming months, and they might boost the sale of these two consoles. A few more power-packed games and price-cuts down the line, and the console race might just turn on its head. Anyways, at least for now, Nintendo Wii deserves its console crown.
