Steven Poole’s Trigger Happy now free

Trigger Happy

Author and esteemed game journalist Steven Poole has just given every academically-minded gamer an early Christmas present by making his 2000 book “Trigger Happy”, available for free download. Poole says that giving away this version is a sort of experiment under the creative commons license. The book itself is quite excellent, it’s an extremely intelligent and easily digested examination of the unique aesthetics of videogames.

As Poole himself puts it:

“Trigger Happy is a book about the aesthetics of videogames — what they share with cinema, the history of painting, or literature; and what makes them different, in terms of form, psychology and semiotic”.

If that sounds dense to you, be assured that the book is extremely readable. You don’t need any sort of art history background to appreciate it.

Also – this is a limited time offer. So interested parties should grab it up while they can.
