Following months of whispers and speculation, LucasArts has finally announced that BioWare is hard at work on a Windows PC-exclusive, massively multiplayer online sequel to its beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic role-playing series.
Star Wars: The Old Republic will, according to a press release issued yesterday (October 21, 2008), once again takes place thousands (3500 to be precise) of years before the events of the popular movie trilogy but 300 years after the events of the original Knights of the Old Republic.
Players will able to choose from a variety of character classes, including those allied with the Galactic Republic — “the center of peace and progress, a bright beacon in the darkness” — including as the Jedi, and those allied with the Sith Empire — “a brutal and efficient force of vengeance, determined to dominate the galaxy” — including as the Sith (funnily enough).
The aforementioned press release also notes that additional gameplay details and a release date will be “announced at a later time.” For now, you can find a fairly meaty official website for the game. It features further background details, FAQs, screenshots and a selection of fabulous concept artwork.
