With Final Fantasy XIII recently released, Square is already putting the finishing touches on the next entry in the franchise: Final Fantasy XIV.
FFXIV will be a massively multiplayer online role-playing Game (MMORPG) set in the world of Hydaelyn. The story revolves around different guilds - remnants of an alliance to fight off an invading army - and adventurers that roam the land of Eorzea. Players will be able to choose from five different races: The elf-like Elezen, the small and agile Lalafell, the human-like Hyur, the giant Roegadyn and the cat-like Miqo’te.
Characters will be fully customizable and there are four different disciplines to choose from, each one with different classes. There are Disciples of the Hand who are mainly crafters, like Alchemists or Blacksmiths. There are also Disciples of the Land, like Miners. Disciples of Magic have the Conjurer and Thaumaturge and Disciples of War include Archers and Gladiators.
The game looks really interesting, but at this moment there are only trailers and screenshots, both areas Square excels at, so we’ll have to wait until some playable demos are available or some of the beta testers give a verdict. It is nice to see creatures from past Final Fantasy games make a return on this new entry and luckily a fan favorite is back, the mighty Cactuar.
Final Fantasy XIV will be released 2010 for PS3 and Windows PC.
