Square Enix bringing Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360, shows new trailer

by Janine Dong on Jul 16, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Kick
Square Enix’s great ground-breaking news at the 2008 Electronics Entertainment Expo is the announcement that they would be developing Final Fantasy XIII for the XBOX 360. Final Fantasy XIII is the flagship title for the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII collection which includes Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.  Therefore, many assumptions for the release of the game were thought that it would be a Playstation 3 exclusive.

Naturally encountering mixed feelings about this decision from the fans, Square Enix’s strategy in porting over Final Fantasy XIII should be obvious - to make more money. On July 14, 2008, during the Microsoft’s E3 press briefing, Shacknews reports Square Enix stated the following: “We believe that bringing the game to Xbox 360 will allow us to provide a game to even more fans in North America and Europe [the markets with higher volumes of Xbox 360s].“

Since the Xbox 360 cannot compare to the same level of success as its markets in the Americas and Europe, it’s unclear as to whether Final Fantasy XIII will even be released for Japanese Xbox 360 owners. Square Enix’s current plan of action is to first finish development of Final Fantasy XIII for the Playstation 3, including its localization for the English market, and then it will begin development on the Xbox 360 version.

Aside from Final Fantasy XIII‘s leap to the 360, no other tender morsels of information were revealed about the game or its siblings. However, check out this trailer shown at E3 2008, offering even more for its salivating public to revel in:

Square Enix did release a new trailer for its salivating public to revel in. The trailer shows off the seamless segues between CG and in-game graphics while introducing glimpses at the technological advances within the setting of this world. Two summon creatures, Shiva and Ifrit, can also be seen displaying their unworldly powers briefly. Amongst even more scenes where our green-eyed heroine is in the midst of battle, viewers are also treated to several scenes introducing a young cap-wearing blond male and red-headed pig-tailed girl who wears a short pink dress.
