In a recent press release, Square Enix confirmed the release of four new games which will be available in the first quarter of 2008. The forthcoming titles are Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Wii), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (DS), Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP) and The World Ends with You (DS). The surprising thing about this release schedule isn’t the large amount of series spin-offs, but instead the fact that the majority of the titles are for portable systems.

All of the upcoming games, with the exception of The World Ends with You, also have confirmed release dates. Dragon Quest Swords will be released February 26, 2008. It will be rated Teen and cost $49.99. Next up will be Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: RoF, with a March 11, 2008 release date, Everyone 10+ rating, and a price tag of $39.99. Crisis Core: FFVII will be close behind, arriving in stores on March 25, 2008 with a Teen rating and a $39.99 price. The World Ends with You is the only mystery in the group, with no release date, price, or rating announced.

Square Enix fans have a lot to look forward to next year. At least, the ones with a DS and PSP do. Personally, I can’t wait for Crisis Core and The World Ends with You.
