Special edition DS Lite bundles to be available on Black Friday
Nintendo has confirmed that, come this Black Friday (aka the day after Thanksgiving, November 23, 2007), it will be releasing special edition Nintendo DS Lite bundles.
Two flavors will be offered to fans this holiday season, a gold special edition DS Lite with a triforce symbol on its cover and a pink special edition DS lite with a Nintendog’s pawprint on its cover. The two DS Lites will be bundled with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Nintendogs: Best Friends, respectively, and retail for $150 each. It’s a wonderful bargain considering the quality of the games and the slick appearance of the handhelds.
The news is welcome by DS fans in the west as the bundles represent the first widely available special edition DS Lites sporting cover art to ever reach North American shores. It’s also the first to actually cater to a gaming audience as opposed to sports or movie fans.
Japan holds the title for most special edition DS Lites to be released, including one of the most popular ones, the Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl special edition featuring an emblazoned Palkia and Dialga on the cover. Since the DS is a region-free handheld, fans wishing to sport an attractive-looking DS Lite will shell out over $300 for one of these rare limited editions.
More frugal fans looking to pimp out their DS Lites may be interested in researching skins. For a small price, pre-made or customized artwork can be printed onto adhesive covers that the player can apply to their units, giving the user a personal touch on their beloved handhelds.
