With these options taken away from me, the logical choice would be to remain at home and play video games, right?
While this would be a wise choice, as the gaming industry has proven itself to be resilient to economic pressures, the struggles of the stock market has even caused gaming shares to tumble, proving that the wrath of the negative economy knows no bounds.
Despite these rough economic times, Kaz Hirai, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment, made it clear to the Financial Times that the game industry will withstand and continue to show its strength.
However, he won’t throw gamers an economic bone as he also made clear in that interview that he has no plans to cut the price of the Playstation 3. In other words, it will remain the most expensive of the three consoles once the holiday season arrives.
Though I consider myself lucky to own a PS3 alongside an Xbox 360, I have to admit that my 360 is my system of choice. While Sony’s upcoming lineup may appear more interesting on the horizon that what Microsoft and Nintendo have to offer, this decision may come back to haunt them in the future, as the PS3 continues to draw less attention from consumers than the Xbox 360 and the Wii combined.
Perhaps having it all may not prove beneficial in the long run, if you are unwilling to bend to the desires and availability of your fans.
