Sony Japan looking for guinea pigs for “new game machine”

Sony must be thinking of ways to counter Nintendo’s upcoming DSi release (April 5, 2009), as it may already be working on another game system.

Of course, to make that system a reality, the company will need additional workers, hence this new job listing posted on Sony Japan’s web site.

According to a translation by GameSpot, the advertisement is looking for a person to be “an evaluator/assessor” for “a new game machine.”

Based on that translation, 1UP suggests this “new game machine” may be a new version of Sony’s Playstation Portable. However, whether that new version is a modified form of their original Playstation Portable model or a brand new iteration of its portable powerhouse remains to be seen.

In further analyzing the ad, it mentions that the individual hired will be “part of an advisory staff that will play PlayStation series software on this new machine and check its functionality.” Also, the new employee will be able to “test game machines not yet released or new functionality of PS3 peripherals before they are released.”

It is unknown at the moment how Sony Japan will respond to takers of this advertisement. Let’s hope that the results that come from this will ultimately be of some benefit to gamers and not turn out to be some ridiculous invention (or a masked publicity stunt) that will ultimately prove to lack any significant value to the gaming community.
