When talking about potential blockbuster PS3 titles for 2008, chances are LittleBigPlanet‘s name will come up. LBP has demonstrated its originality and creation possibilities several times over the past year and Sony is giving it a big marketing push as its release draws closer. LBP is looking to be a big time system seller for Sony because it appeals to a wide variety of gamers. Early previews have also noted LBP‘s ease of use and wide array of clever gameplay.
SCEA marketing manager Mark Valledor confirmed Sony’s dedication to the game in an interview with Advertising Age:
Last week Sony introduced LBP pre-order items that will be given out at select retailers as an added incentive to pick up the game. The Kratos-inspired Sackboy downloadable costume is possibly the most sought after of the bunch. He along with the Nariko costume from Heavenly Sword can only be obtained from ordering the game ahead of time which almost guarantees a healthy amount of purchases.
On the non-digital front, Sony will put together LittleBig billboards around San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles to get the word out even more. These billboards will feature working lights and ladders that help express the creative element LBP is offering. Sony is betting some of them will be stolen but doesn’t mind because of the additional hype that could be generated from Ebay auctions.
