Sony details PSP 3000 differences, bundles
You may remember last week’s unofficial announcement about the successor to the PSP 2000 aptly named PSP 3001. We knew it had to be a matter of time before Sony put more information about this on the record and, thankfully, Sony has done just that at Leipzig 2008.
Contrary to the FCC filings, this new PSP model will not be given the 3001 brand number. It will instead carry the easier-to-remember PSP 3000 title. From what we’ve seen from those FCC filings, this new PSP seems to be identical to the PSP 2000 that is currently available. That left us to assume the new model would be comprised of different parts thus making it cheaper to produce. However, today (August 20, 2008) SCEA sent out a press release that described the PSP 3000 as having “a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors.” In addition to that, the PSP 3000 will also come with a built-in microphone.
We can use this anti-reflection enhanced screen and mic when the PSP 3000 bundles are released on October 14, 2008, and November 2008 for $199. The first bundle comes with a silver PSP 3000, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD, a PSN voucher for Echochrome and a 1GB memory stick. The second bundle comes out in November 2008 and will include a black PSP 3000, 4GB memory stick and a PSN voucher for Everyday Shooter.
