I attended an advance screening of Watchmen last night and, while I cannot give you a full review yet (that’ll come soon enough), here’s what I can tell you about Warner Bros. latest comic book-based flick without (major) spoilers:

• You will be siting for at least two hours and forty minutes (minus the few fanboy seconds where you jump out of your seat). The director’s cut is even longer.
• “Tricky Dick” Nixon is president.
• There is nudity of both boys and girls. (Read: Dr. Manhattan’s suits and loincloth are only for TV appearances.)
• Heroes die.
• Heroes do ‘it.’
• The US won the Vietnam War but the Cold War is still on.
• The Comic still ain’t funny.
• You will not see the comic-within-a-comic interludes. You’ll need to check that out on the direct-to-home-video release, Tales of the Black Freighter.
• Spot the plastic face parts and win a prize.
• It’s like, totally ‘80s. And some ‘70s. And a wee bit of groovy ‘60s. Listen and you’ll know what I’m typing about.
• There’s some slo-motion (but not nearly as much as 300).
• There is plenty of blood. And guts. And bloody guts.
• Things go boom.
• Loads o’ action.
• Animal lovers will probably not like this movie.
• Smileys galore.

Warning: Like Dark Knight, this comic book-based flick is not for kids. The R rating is well deserved.
