Silent Hill Homecoming release pushed back at least two more months

Word about Silent Hill 5: Homecoming originally was that it would be coming out Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. On August 20, 2008, Konami Digital Entertainment announced that it would also be released to the PC as well. Original plans were also that the game should be shipping September 2008 but there are reports that the release will be pushed back to November 2008.

One of the reports is from DarkZone which claims that the game still needs extra time for development. If the reason is to polish off some rough edges in terms of control and clearing out some graphics glitches, it will be well worth the time so that Silent Hill 5 doesn’t go the disappointing way of Alone in the Dark 5.

One of the things that has been confirmed is that Pyramid Head, a fan favorite from Silent Hill 2, will be playing a part in the storyline for Homecoming. Not necessarily news since that was confirmed during E3 2008 but it is something that would garner more attention for the game. The depth of the role he will play hasn’t been announced but it should be fairly interesting. Judging from the fact that Pyramid Head acted as a means of punishment in Silent Hill 2 if you read into the story, things might be similar for Homecoming since Shepard will most likely be suffering some form of either war-time guilt or Post-Traumatic Stress.

The only currently available information is that it will be available as a digital download from Steam.  The minimum required specs haven’t been released yet but, from the looks of the game so far, it looks like gamers might need a pretty advanced gaming rig if they want the game for PC. For you horror junkies that are waiting for a Silent Hill fix, you’ll have to wait just a little longer than expected.

Homecoming is the first Silent Hill game not developed by the normal team that has developed the first five games of the franchise. The company behind the development of SH5 is Double Helix, which was made in 2007 by merging The Collective and Shiny Entertainment. To use more recent games as a point of reference, the Collective is the company behind Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure and Shiny Entertainment is the company behind The Matrix: Path of Neo. Akira Yamaoka is also returning to make the standard atmospheric soundtrack that the Silent Hill franchise is renowned for.

Just wanted to say that Silent Hill: Origins was not developed by the original team, “Team Silent,“ which developed 1-4. It was instead developed by Climax Group, and thus, it was the first Silent Hill game not developed by the original team, not Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Yeah. Probably should’ve been a little more specific. Silent Hill Origins was not developed by the original team. However, Homecoming is the first console/PC-only game from the franchise not developed by the original. Origins was originally released for the PSP handheld and then was ported to the PS2, though the port was a little shoddy since they didn’t factor in the extra joystick or two extra shoulder buttons to be utilized. That made the PS2 a bit awkward in terms of control for the people who played 1-4 on the PS2.
