While its great that Atlus is going to bring the Wii rogue-like RPG Shiren the Wanderer, it isn’t all good news. The Japanese version of the game was compatible with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, allowing people to download dungeon content, rescue other players, take part in versus multiplayer and trade items. Sadly, the North American release isn’t going to have all of that. It will have the downloadable dungeon included right away when you buy the game, but the other online options aren’t going to be available when the game comes out February 9, 2010.
The Wii version of Shiren the Wanderer is the third game in the series. In this adventure, Shiren gets the key to the Karakuri Mansion, and sets off to discover the truth behind a story that says a princess sleeps inside. The game also has multiple difficulty levels, extra dungeons and quests to play after the main storyline has been completed. You even have people journeying through the dungeons with Shiren, and you can either trust the game’s judgement or control your other party members.
While the loss of the online features is quite sad, at least we’re actually getting the game in North America. It isn’t a total loss, we’re still getting the downloadable content included on the disc. Besides, the Wii can always use more RPGs.
