Shaun White Snowboarding sequel in the works? Not so fast, says Ubisoft

Shaun White Snowboarding

Despite the questionable reception of Shaun White’s initial video game snowboarding venture, he has already expressed confidence in working on a sequel.

According to Reuters, “The Flying Tomato” made it clear that the knowledge that he gained with completing his first snowboarding video game will only ensure success with his second venture, remarking that he now “knows what is possible and not possible, experiences that will all help with the next game.”

However, while White is eager for the opportunity for another run down the digitized slopes, Ubisoft is a bit reticent, remarking to Videogamer that no announcements were made regarding a sequel to White’s initial snowboarding game.

Of course, the fact that there Ubisoft has not made an announcement regarding a sequel does not mean that one is not in the works. Considering White’s influence following his Olympic triumphs, he would have no problem using that leverage towards creating an additional video game.

On the other hand, while he may be able to use his influence toward the creation of an additional game, the sales of his previous product may prevent that from happening. According to an NPD report, none of Shaun White’s initial games, when released on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, were able to reach the top 20 in terms of sales. This is not a promising statistic when considering whether or not a specific property is sequel-worthy.

It remains to be seen whether or not Shaun White Snowboarding will see a sequel, considering that there are other means that gamers can get their snowboarding fix.
