The release of an intriguing, educational Mac and PC game is just on the horizon - Global Conflicts: Latin America is going to be released October 23, 2008. This European game attempts to teach students (and gamers) about the problems in Latin America by casting them as a journalist sent to the region to report on what’s happening there. There are five missions, each one with multiple issues that can be addressed, and each mission is created in a way which would allow a student to finish it in under two hours.
The best part is, there’s an online, browser-based demo of Global Conflicts: Latin America. The only downside is, you have to have the Unity Web Player 3D plugin installed on your computer. If you do, you can enjoy a brief experience of an investigative journalist sent to Latin America. If you ever wanted to be a journalist, the demo’s a fun way to spend about 10 minutes.
Its a shame that this is a European release - I’d have loved to play a game like this in one of my history classes instead of just being lectured at. If you’re in Europe, or happen to be a European teacher, the game will be available in a 19.99 EUR personal version and a 99.99 EUR educational version. There is also another entry in the series, Global Conflicts: Palestine, with the same goal of educating while also entertaining.
