Anyone who owns an iPhone or iPod Touch can enjoy a little classic gaming from Sega today. Both Ecco the Dolphin and Space Harrier II ports of the classic Sega Genesis games have made their iTunes debut. Get out there and enjoy those classic games in the outdoors! The best part is, both games are quite affordable, as Ecco the Dolphin costs $2.99 and Space Harrier II is only 99ยข.
Ecco the Dolphin is an action and exploration game about a dolphin that sets out to save his abducted pod (family). You have to go through 25 levels searching for crystals and interacting with other marine life. Though there are many challenges, it’s also somewhat relaxing and beautiful. I must admit that the on-screen virtual joystick and controls are quite distracting.
Space Harrier II> is a futuristic shooter with pseudo 3D effects. You must travel through 13 stages, fighting enemies and 13 bosses, to try and reach an area where a distress call went out so you can save the day. Unfortunately, like Ecco the Dolphin, there’s a somewhat obtrusive virtual joystick and action button on screen. It isn’t as distracting as the ones that appear in Ecco, but the two buttons are still a bit of an eyesore.
