Rumor: Xbox 360 price cut coming soon

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 10, 2007 at 05:17 PM

Gamertell Xbox 360 System Apparently one rumor coming true wasn’t quite enough to satiate the pride of game bloggers around the world.

Videogame experts and analysts are predicting that the Xbox 360 price will soon drop in response to the recent $100 decrease in the price of the original PS3. From Play:

Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter is advising that he predicts an Elite model 360 cut from 479 USD to 399 USD, with the Pro and Core packs both losing 50 USD each to 349 USD and 249 USD.

The article then goes on to explain that another analyst says the drop will be $50 for all Xbox 360 systems and another predicts it will drop $100 later in the year. They are expecting Microsoft to make the announcement this evening (July 10,2007) during its E3 2007 press conference.

I found this ancient post that says Microsoft plans to drop the Xbox 360 price each year. Those analysts sure went out on a limb, eh?

Who are these game analysts anyway? How can I become one? I mean, I’ve been writing about video games for several years and playing them for 30. That seems to make me more than qualified, right?

I hereby declare myself a videgame analyst and here are my first three predictions:

  • Late 2007, Microsoft is going to offer a firmware update that will cause Xbox Live to spit out candy every time you earn 10 achievement points.
  • The next Xbox game system - to be released in 2010 - will be nuclear powered so that it is completely quiet - except for a faint hum during thunder storms - and have a pleasant green glow all the time.
  • The next big wireless controller will be the Microsoft Footsie. It features buttons in a pair of snazzy socks and you wiggle your toes, kick and stomp your feet to play. The batteries will recharge as you walk.
