Rumor: Starcraft Online possibly in development
Considrering Blizzard Entertainment is making tens of millions of dollars each year with World of Warcraft, the company should at least be spending some of that cash on a new game or, at the very least, something that isn’t centered on the Warcraft universe. Thankfully, it looks like Blizzard might just be doing just that with the rumored development of Starcraft Online.
Developed by Blizzard in 1998 and originally released for the PC and Mac, Starcraft has remained hugely popular in the United States and abroad (especially in Korea). It was only last year (2008) that Blizzard announced a Starcraft sequel was in the works for the PC. This came after Starcraft Ghost, originally being developed for the Xbox and PS2, was canceled.
Fans of Starcraft might not want to get their hopes up too much, however. Blizzard, while confirming that they are working on a new MMO title, hasn’t stated yet that that title will be Starcraft. The other prospect is, that perhaps this new MMO could in fact be Diablo Online.
Regardless as to whether or not this is rumor or fact, fans will no doubt be keeping their ears low to the ground for these rumors to become true. Blizzard has already proven that their fans are amongst the most loyal and deserving in the gaming community. Whether or not their next MMO is Starcraft or Diablo, standing side-by-side with World of Warcraft, Blizzard stands to add another couple billion to their bank account if these rumors turn out to be true.
