Rumor: More Xbox 360 price cuts coming this year

by Jeremy Hill on Aug 3, 2008 at 08:31 PM

Black Xbox 360The Xbox 360 Pro bundle was given a $50 price drop right before E3 2008 bringing it down to $299. At that moment no mention was made about price cuts for the Arcade or Elite models. Now a Microsoft insider told Ars Technica of another series of Xbox price cuts. This insider also gave everyone the heads up on the first price cut before Microsoft made it official so they may be a little more reliable than most rumor starters.

The insider says that all Xbox 360 consoles will be reduced in price including the already reduced Pro console. Starting in September 2008 the Arcade version could drop to $199, the Pro will be $299, and the Elite will cost $399. These are some pretty serious price reductions. Just recently a screen showing a SKU inquiry was put on VGChartz that gave this rumor even more validity.

SKU Inquiry

The picture above can be a bit daunting but look toward the bottom right of the screen. The red underlined portion shows the new price for the Arcade console will be $199 starting September 7, 2008. This potential move from Microsoft could put several more Xbox 360 into users homes one week before Infinite Undiscovery comes out and a couple weeks before Rock Band 2 is released.
