Rumor: Michael Bay to direct possible Metroid movie

by Christopher Buckner on May 27, 2008 at 07:06 PM

metroidIn the past couple weeks there have been rumors circulating around the web that a possible movie adaptation of Metroid is in the works. While this is still just a rumor, Michael Bay’s name has surfaced as the director of the Metroid movie.

Bay (Transformers, The Rock, Pearl Harbor), famed for his over-the-top style special effects and mindless action, might be able to bring the adventures of Samus Aran to the big screen. If these rumors proved to be true, however, the thought that Bay could be the director of this beloved Nintendo franchise may make a few fans shudder.

While Bay certainly knows how to handle big budget movies and may be ideal for an obviously effects-heavy film, Bay has never had a flare for dramatic story development. Of course, with Transformers 2 set to start filming in the next couple weeks, and a number of other projects, Bay might not even have time to work on another movie.

Metroid, one of Nintendo’s longest running series has a legion of fans who are eager to see Samus come to the big screen. If these rumors prove to be true, fans will have to cross their fingers and hope Bay doesn’t screw up the first Metroid film adaptation.

I believe a dark, realistic Metriod would work for the big screen.Of course, they would be wise to remain true to the original story and style. The story of metroid is as good of a science fiction story than any.Imagine how the movie would look if someone took it under their wings and actually did it justice.I would spend several dollers to see it,if they really took it in with respect and care.

Yeah, agree. I just don’t think Bay is right for the movie. I don’t think he is right for any movie. The man knows nothing about editing or story development. Then again, I guess he is perfect as video game movies don’t know nothing about story either ^^
