Rumor: Metal Gear Solid 4 probably not the end of franchise

by Christopher Buckner on May 29, 2008 at 07:31 PM

metal gear solid 4With the June 2008 release date of the next installment in the Metal Gear Solid series just, there has been a lot of assumption that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots will be the last in the series. That might not be the case.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Hideo Kojima, the creator and lead designer of Metal Gear stated:

“Metal Gear will always be around. I feel a responsibility to continue this series as long as users demand it.”

In the 21 years since Snake was first introduced to gamers worldwide, more than 17 million units have been sold. These numbers alone could justify Kojima’s thinking to continue the series for his fans. He did say, however, that he might not be as involved in any possible continuations after Guns of Patriots is completed.

“It doesn’t mean I’m going to sit in completely. I’ll probably take a different role in the next game. Maybe I’ll sit in as producer and let the young staff take control of the new series. I really want to go on to new things.”

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots is due to be released on June, 12, 2008, for the Playstation 3, the same day Metal Gear Online is also expected to be released.
