Rumor: Mass Effect 2 departing Xbox
After three exclusive titles developed for the Xbox and Xbox 360, it looks as if EA is ready to mess with a good thing when it comes to Bioware’s partnership with Microsoft. Just as the first downloadable context for 2007’s RPG of the year, Mass Effect, has been released through Xbox Live, Bioware’s senior manager Matt Atwood spoke to English gaming site CVG” target=“external”>CVG, saying that the remaining two sequels to Mass Effect might not remain an exclusive 360 title for long.
“I believe we’ll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time,” Bioware senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG. “We’re still working out the details on that, but we’ve had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well.”
While the next two games will first be released on the Xbox 360, EA does have plans of shipping the remaining two games in the series onto other yet-to-be-named platforms. Atwood did comment on a possible PC version of Mass Effect 2, saying they “haven’t solidified the plans yet but we’re headed in the direction where we want to be as close as possible [on PC].”
The original Mass Effect, which has sold more than a million copies since its late 2007 launch, is due to be released May 2008 on the PC.
In the meantime, the first expansion pack to the original game was released this week through Xbox Live. Titled “Bringing Down the Sky”, the expansion pack is a 253 MB download that cost 400 MS points ($5), and includes 90 minutes of new story driven game play, planets, a new race and 50 new achievement points

EA can start a lot of things and release all the games unfinished, I wouldn’t count on them for anything.
