This new debacle comes from a interpretation of the word “harm” which the BBFC claims had been misinterpreted, resulting in an grave error of the law. This is just the latest round of back and forth debates and arguments between the UK and Rockstar Games, which has been ongoing for the past year.
Rockstar Games hit back early at the British High Court’s decision to again band Manhunt 2 from UK shelves. The company has stated that they believe the game, which has already been released in the United States, should now simply be released in the UK. Not quite the most compelling of arguments, but Rockstar is clearly standing by their product.
Rockstar Games has made it clear that they don’t attend to drop this fight anytime soon. They may be only fighting for future releases at this point. However, changing another country’s laws, may prove to be a uphill fight for the North American developer.
One has to ask however, whether or not this fight is really worth continuing. It isn’t as if UK gamers can’t get their hands on Manhunt 2 through other European retail or online stores. But, really, is Manhunt 2 even worth it? With lackluster reviews, poor game play and horrible graphics, it is doubtful that there is too many eager UK gamers just begging for this title.
