There will be a few sad little sackboys sitting out in the cold this week, since LittleBigPlanet just got an emergency delay, due to the inclusion of a song that includes statements from the Quran (the Muslim religious text - spelled according to the source post). According to 1Up, a forum poster noticed the lyrics and “respectfully requested that they be removed”. The gamer in question was reportedly a Muslim himself, and found the mixture of holy text and pop music offensive.
Sony took immediate action, and had the game pulled from shelves - on a worldwide basis. They issued an official statement with the usual “we mean no offense” message, and promised to confirm a new launch date shortly. The post hints at a November 14, 2008 launch, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
What a bummer for Sony - this is the PS3’s big huge title for the Holiday season (yes, Resistance 2 is also huge, but I get the feeling that LBP, with it’s incredibly positive reviews and fantastic buzz, is set to really break the mold). The whole affair reminds me of how Nintendo changed the music in The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time from its first release (gold cartridges, baby!) to it’s subsequent iterations, since there were religious lyrics in the original fire temple music.
