Gamertell PSP redesigned Star Wars edition box shot Putting an end to all those annoying rumors,  Sony’s chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kazuo Hirai, revealed at its press conference yesterday (July 11, 2007) that the PSP is getting redesigned to be a bit lighter, thinner and last quite a bit longer.

The revamped PSP, which will not change in name, will retain the same guts yet be 19% thinner and 33% lighter with a battery that is promised to last four times longer than the current PSP.  The “D” control pad has also been redesigned for better response time and the PSP will also allow quick connection to an external video device, such as HD TVs.

Besides the standard black version, the new PSP models will also come in silver and a special edition white Star Wars PSP bundled with the game Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.

Another bundle will be released featuring the Ratchet & Clank PSP game, Family Guy UMD video and a 1 GB memory stick. The bundles are expected to retail for $199 while the standalone PSP ver. 2.0 should cost about the same as the current model ($169).  All are expected in stores September 2007.
