Most of that surprise has come from the fact that the game has been received reasonably well, at least by the reviewers, as most of them have had cause to praise the game’s efforts rather than criticize them.
However, while the game was held in reasonably high regard by critics, all of them agreed on a singular problem exhibited by the game: its unusually minuscule text, shrunken down to the point where most players would deem it unreadable unless they owned high definition televisions.
This is a problem that has afflicted Capcom’s Dead Rising game as well. However, unlike that title (which does not seem to have any tangible solutions to its problem in sight) the good folks at Rare decided about a month later to solve this problem via a patch.
This patch gives players the option of changing the size of the text to suit their needs, making those previously hard-to-read messages a bit easier to decipher.
While it is nice that Rare has taken action on this issue, it is inexcusable that this problem had to occur in the first place. Although it is assumed that the next generation of gaming should come with sharper graphics and other methods of stylistics, they should not arrive at the cost of making said graphics indiscernible to the average consumer.
Let’s hope that this problem will not become a habit in Rare’s future releases.
