PSP phone may be squashed
With the unprecedented success of the iPhone and its ability to harness the potential of a phone/gaming device (sorry NGage), Sony Ericsson was looking to get in on the market with a PSP phone.
According to Mobile Today, Sony told Sony Ericsson it could not use the PlayStation brand in a new handset. Mobile Today also said sources close to the issue claim Sony will only use the PlayStation brand in phones when Sony itself starts making them or if the Sony Ericsson made phones had capabilities that are equal or superior to Sony’s individual devices.
Sony Ericsson currently uses the Sony Walkman and Cyber-shot brand names in its cellular devices and Japan customers have access to the Bravia brand on its phones. Sony Bravia will explore the possibility of using the PlayStation brand in a cell phone sometime in the future.
