PS3 gets a new RPG in Valkyria Chronicles

All for one, one for all in Valkyria Chronicles

Sega has just announced that Valkyria Chronicles, a real time tactical RPG, will be released only on the Playstation 3 sometime in the third quarter of 2008. Although the game, also known as Valkyria of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles, has not yet been released in Japan, Sega apparently has enough confidence in the forthcoming title to release it worldwide. Valkyria Chronicles has been built and developed with the “CANVAS” engine, which generates 3D graphics which also are reminiscent of images seen in a watercolor painting. So, like Okami, Valkyria Chronicles will be like playing a piece of art.

The storyline for Valkyria Chronicles appears to be typical RPG fare based on the initial information in the press release. The stars are the hero Welkin and his soldier comrades of the 7th Platoon of the Federation. The world is ruled by two forces, the Federation and the Empire, and the Empire is starting trouble by setting its sites on a small country named Gallia. Welkin and his allies will fight using the “BLiTZ” system to beat back the Empire forces. The “BLiTZ” system allows players to attack enemies in real time and move freely around the environment during the tactical battles.

It really does look like an interesting title, but there is one thing that irks me. The names of the battle system. “BLiTZ” especially seems to bother me. Just call it “blitz”, because it is the same thing. Or “Blitz” if it is really necessary. I don’t think that the all the letters except for the ‘I’ really need to be capitalized.

Other than that, it looks gorgeous. If I had a PS3 I’d definitely be eagerly awaiting this RPG.

Valkyria Chronicles is going to supply me with endless amounts of fun ;). Yeah all the mixing and matching of capital letters doesn’t seem necessary. Wonder when the PS3 will make f2p mmorpg games.

    It does look spiffy.

I know! It gets annoying all the mixing of capitals and lowercase. You know they’re just doing it to try and make it look more interesting, it doesn’t have any real meaning :P.
