PS3 Bioshock to support trophies, Playstation Home
We can add Bioshock to the number of future PS3 titles that will ship with Trophy support. Andrew Rudson, a programmer for Digital Extremes wrote a post on 2K Games’ website explaining the process of including Trophies in the game.
Rudson said putting Trophies into Bioshock wasn’t very challenging although there some hiccups. He gave an example of one Trophy that requires the player to hack into a machine for the first time. Once completing the accomplishment the game would pause for a second before the Trophy appeared on screen. After sorting out that problem, another soon followed. Rudson and his team also had to prevent the PS3 from rewarding duplicate trophies in rare situations. “If you were good enough to zap four Splicers in water at the same time, the system would want to give you four Trophies, and we had to smooth out the system so that even when you achieved several duplicate Trophies at once, the system only awarded you one, without delay,” Rudson said.
Currently Bioshock’s development team is in the process of translating the Trophy descriptions into different languages, and making sure they all Trophies unlock when they’re supposed to. Rudson describes the overall look of the Trophies as “beautiful.”
The only evidence of Playstation Home support in Bioshock is on the game’s box art. The official design comes straight from Digital Extremes website. We’re not sure what kind of Home support Bioshock will have but it does suggest that Home may be released around the same time (or just prior to) as Bioshock.
