PopCap Games is going to be releasing another $19.95 budget video game for the Playstation 2. PopCap Hits Volume 2 will contain two of PopCap’s most popular titles, Zuma and Heavy Weapon. The title marks the PS2 debut of both games and will be available sometime in June, 2008. Both of the casual games in the collection were previously released on Xbox Live Arcade with great success.

Zuma is a classic puzzle game along the lines of Bubble Bobble or Puyo Pop. There is a chain of multicolored balls in a circle around a stone frog, and the player must shoot colored balls out of the frog to create groups of three or more of the same color. If they do, those balls are eliminated. It is also the more popular game in the complilation, as it is available on many platforms. In fact, while I’ve heard plenty about Zuma, I hadn’t heard about Heavy Weapon until PopCap released the press release on this game.

From the description in the press release, Heavy Weapon sounds quite a bit like Metal Slug, or perhaps even an easier version of Contra. It is a side scrolling military action/adventure game where enemies attack and the player must defeat them. The press release states that the PS2 version of Heavy Weapon has two new multiplayer modes included.

I’d say get the collection for Zuma if you love puzzlers. That game is addictive. I have it on my iPod and adore it. Heavy Weapon seems like it could have potential, but other series have done the whole military themed side scroller better.
