PopCap to release Peggle for DS

by Jeremy Hill on Jul 26, 2008 at 02:46 PM

PeggleThe peg popping game that has racked up thousands of hours of playtime from people all over the globe will attempt to do it all over again. Peggle has found a home on PC, Mac, iPod, and Xbox Live and now its set its sights on the DS.

PopCap enlisted the help of Q Entertainment to bring Peggle DS to the United States. There are talks of bringing Peggle to European territories as well but as of now nothing has been confirmed.

Details are very scarce about the content Peggle will bring to the DS. It’s speculated that the DS version will have more levels than any version before it. It’s fair to say some DS-specific touchscreen features will also be included.

The object of Peggle is to destroy orange pegs with a little ball. You only get a certain number of balls so it helps to have a little strategy before you take a shot. Each stage has a different set of enhancements in addition to the main objective. For example one stage has you destroy both orange peds, and orange platforms. Another includes green pegs which allow you to fine tune your shot for three turns. The special abilities depend on which character you pick. Traditionally there’s been ten to choose from. The sounds and colors really make the game refreshing. I never get sick of the slow motion zoom effect when the last peg is about to be destroyed.

Q Entertainment is responsible for that other whimsically colorful puzzle game Lumines. Hopefully the same qualities that made Lumines so great will spill over onto Peggle.
