Pogo sells more than 100 million virtual gems, Bedazzles giant virtual pogostick

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 17, 2007 at 08:07 PM

Gamertell Bedazzled Pogo Stick EA’s online casual gaming site, Pogo, has been sucking in old ladies, pre-teens and everyone in between since 1995 with highly addictive games including Poppit, Qwerty and Tumble Bees

Since the program started in November 2006, Pogo has sold more than 100 million online credits in the form of Pogo Gems, costing between $7.19 and $22.79 for various size packages. For example, a package of 80 Pogo Gems costs $7.19 through the online service PayByCash (in addition to a one-year subscription to Club Pogo which costs $43.59).

The Gems can then be spent customizing Pogo avatars (known as a Mini) or redeeming badges. According to EA, typical redemptions include:

  • Premium Mini Add-ons - These items allow players to further spice up their avatar with animated content such as animated backgrounds or fun add ons such as flying butterflies or lights.
  • Premium Badge Albums - These themed albums give players a chance to achieve badges above and beyond the four weekly challenges that come with a Club Pogo subscription.
  • Mix-and-Match Badges - Players choose badges a la carte to create their own custom badge album.

OK, so there really isn’t a giant, Bedazzled virtual pogostick but what the heck else would you do with 100 million virtual gems? Obviously, EA spends milliseconds each day raking in the dough with a giant, virtual Bedazzled garden rake.
