This Thursday (January 8, 2009) has brought with it the first Playstation Store update since the holiday season and it is encouraging players to engage their eyes, minds and hands in order to garner maximum enjoyment.
The latest episode of Qore makes its appearance in the Store this week and, for $3, players will have the opportunity to delve into Guerrilla’s development house and learn more about Killzone 2, a Playstation 3-exclusive first-person shooter that has generated a great deal of buzz as of late. However, it remains to be seen whether or not that buzz will result in positive critiques.
Players who choose to exercise their minds rather than anticipating the use of their trigger fingers will undoubtedly look forward to the release of Cuboid, a 3D puzzle game where players will have to navigate a rectangular block to mystical exits. For $10, players will be able to test their skills throughout 66 levels of challenge and intrigue.
Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom is another cerebral experience that is for sale in the Playstation Store. For $10, gamers will have the chance to test their skills in a classic Chinese game that is since enhanced with ancient Chinese tales, multiple game modes and trophy support.
This update to the Playstation Store also saw a free add-on pack for Naurto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, an estimated $4 Elite add-on pack for Tom Clancy’s EndWar and a $5 roster update for WWE Smackdown v. Raw 2009. Each of these game additions guarantees that players will have additional opportunities to achieve success.
Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band and Rock Revolution also become the beneficiaries of additional music packs with this new update. Guitar Hero World Tour fans will have the opportunity to download a European Track Pack for $5.49, while Rock Band players will have the chance to purchase songs such as “Hymn 43” by Jethro Tull and “Funk #49” by James Gang for $1.99 each.
Rock Revolution players can purchase songs such as “Cemetery Gates” and “Mouth for War” for $1.50 each.
This about wraps up the content for this iteration; there are no wallpapers, themes or videos, making this the skimpiest of Sony’s Playstation Store updates thus far.
Let’s hope that Sony does better next week.
